Private tutor in State College, PA

Education

I have a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University. I graduated with 3.47 GPA and was a legal studies/crime, law, and justice major. My first two years of college were spent studying Biology until I decided I wanted to go to law school and switched. I am now a 2nd year law student at Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson School of Law and am expecting my Juris Doctorate degree in May of 2014.

Experience

I have two younger sisters so helping out with school work is nothing new to me. I want to tutor because I understand that it can be difficult sometimes to learn in large class settings and I believe I am equipped and able to give students the one-on-one attention that will lead them to success in their academic careers. I have taken many science classes, especially Biology and mammalian anatomy. My major was however, in legal studies and as a law student I am most well-rounded in areas of the law, constitutional subjects (such as American history), political science etc. The law is also however, heavy on writing and analytical skills. As an undergrad I took business writing and editing, public speaking, creative writing, and all the required grammar courses. As a law student I have taken legal journalism, legal writing, and writing and editing. Law school classes are also almost entirely built upon essay finals and papers, which require analysis and the subsequent ability to get your thoughts across through writing, so I have plenty experience in that area. I also had to take the LSAT which is primarily a test on analytical and reading skills.

Hobbies

I love to travel. I have studied abroad extensively both as an undergraduate and as a law student. My travel experiences have allowed me to appreciate a variety of cultures and people from all over the world and has made me a more well-rounded and personable individual, always open to new things and experiences. I am generally described as an easy-going person who tends to get along with just about everyone. I love sports, watching hockey but playing softball, which I did for many years. I also enjoy music and am quite eclectic in my taste, and I am very close with my family and am well versed in interacting with children of all ages. I am actively and passionately involved with Penn State's dance maraTHON, which raises money for pediatric cancer research and for financial assistance to families who need support. This year I served as the President of the law school THON team and I was also involved as an undergraduate. Volunteering for me began at a young age and never ceased, as helping people in the small ways we can and advocating for those who need a voice that will be heard for them, is my motivation for going to law school and in most of the things that I do.
